For the third consecutive year, Healthgrades®, an organization that provides information and ratings about healthcare providers, named Augusta Health one of “America’s 50 Best Hospitals™.” This makes Augusta Health one of only two hospitals in Virginia with that designation.
“According to our analysis, if all hospitals in America as a group performed at the same level as America’s 50 Best Hospitals Award recipients, on average 176,000 lives could have been saved,” says Katharine Mongoven, director of Quality Solutions for Healthgrades. “That is a lot of lives and a real difference for patients in the community.”
In performing its analysis, Healthgrades independently analyzes each acute care hospital in the country, which totals around 5,000 hospitals. Using a risk-adjusted statistical model, Healthgrades compares each hospital’s actual performance to its expected performance. Those hospitals that exceed their expected performance are highlighted.
In addition to being recognized as one of America’s 50 Best Hospitals, Augusta Health was recognized for eight separate achievements. It received Excellence Awards highlighting the hospital’s exceptional outcomes in orthopedic surgery, joint replacement and pulmonary care. Rounding out Augusta Health’s achievements are five Five-Star Distinctions — meaning Augusta Health received the highest rating of five stars in these categories: total knee replacement, total hip replacement, hip fracture treatment, treatment for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and treatment for pneumonia.
